Use Different Types of Carpet to Decorate Your Home

Carpet College 101

So you want to decorate your home with carpets? Carpets are available in so many types and styles in the market that it often becomes difficult to choose the right one for your home. Should you go for a small rug, shag, or wall- to-wall carpeting? Which style would add more beauty to your bedroom, and which one would suit the den? Can’t decide? Let us walk you through some popular carpet types for homes, and give some decoration advice alongside.

Shag

Shag is a term used for a carpet that has a deeper pile than average, giving it a shaggy appearance, and hence the name. When this carpet was first introduced in the market, it was available in earthy tones. The carpet was plush and soft, which made it a popular choice for a home based carpet. Shags come in a wide array of colors, and are the best option for private spaces such as a bedroom. Generally, they are not used in eating places like the dining room.

Shag has a thick texture, and a comfortable feel. If you have kids or pets, you should definitely consider it as a wall-to-wall carpeting option. However, you’ll need a high quality vacuum to thoroughly clean the thick fibers.

Solid Cut Pile

Solid cut pile is a carpet the fibers of which have been cut such that they are of the same height, resulting in a flat surface under the foot. Featuring a soft appearance and a cushiony feel, this type of carpet is good for families with young children or pets. Since it doesn’t have any open lops, there is a lesser chance that it can be stumbled upon.

Cut and Loop

Do you like subtle patterns? This carpet is for you then. A cut and loop carpet has a sculpted appearance due its uncut low loops and sheared top loops. Many a times, its patterns give the look as if they have been cut directly on to it. A cut and loop carpet usually features a light and slightly darker tone of the same color, which allows it to hide regular wear and tear. Therefore, it’s a great choice for high traffic areas, but has a lower durability than other carpet types.

Modular Carpet Tiles

Looking around for a durable carpet option? Modular carpet tiles are just the right choice for it. Available in a wide range of designs, textures and colors, these carpets are easy to install. Should they ever get soiled, you can remove that tile, wash it and then replace it after drying. If it’s permanently damaged, you can just change that one tile rather than replacing the entire carpet.

Mohair

Want to make your home warmer? Do with a mohair carpet if you live in a cold region. However, this carpet is prone to shedding, which means you’ll often have to vacuum.

So, which carpet type do you like the best? Discuss it with the expert carpet sales and installation team at Home Based Carpet and Flooring, and they’ll help you out.
